After The Break Teaser Scene In Honor Of St. Patrick's Day

“I’m going to clean this up and it’s probably going to hurt, okay?” A hint of worry laces his warning.

“I can handle it. Do your worst.”

He grabs a brown bottle off the counter and pours some of the liquid onto a cotton swab. When he begins to move the cotton toward my cut, I flinch.

“Ouch!” I jerk my hand away.

“Knock it off! I didn’t even touch you yet.” He rolls his eyes and now I have a full-blown smile on my face as he starts to wipe my hand with the cleanser. It stings a little, but I’m too focused on his close proximity to even care.

“So how did your meeting go? Everything good?” Liam asks as he continues to work his healing magic on me.

“It went. I don’t really want to talk about it, though. No more business drama for me today.” He glances up from my hand curiously, as if he knows I’m hiding something. Or maybe that’s just my paranoia. Either way, I want to change the subject before he presses me for more details, and anyway, there’s something I’ve been curious about since the plane ride.

“Can I ask you something, Liam?”

“Anything, Sky.”

“You said on the plane that your dad was a boxer in Ireland. I was just curious how he went from boxing in Ireland to bar owner in Washington. Seems like a big leap.”

“That’s what you wanted to ask me? You’re curious about my dad?”

“Yeah—no, well, sort of. Not about your dad specifically, I’m just curious about you, I guess. You’re going to be living in my pool house for the next three months, and it occurred to me that I should probably know more about you. Your origins and all that.”

Your origins? Where do I come up with this weirdness?

“Fair enough,” he says as he grabs another cotton swab and runs it under the faucet, then starts to clean up more of the blood. I watch his movements curiously because his attentiveness is so foreign to me and I want to revel in the rare moment. “My dad moved to Washington when he was twenty-one. For a girl, actually. My mom. She went to Ireland when she was nineteen, for some study abroad nursing program with her school. She walked into my grandpa Niall’s bar one night with her school friends when my dad was hanging out with a few of his friends. He was ‘enchanted by her.’ His words, by the way, not mine. I would never say something that fucking lame.”

“I would never dream you would,” I say, shaking my head dramatically.

“Anyway, some douchebag that had come with her—”

“Wait, how do you know he was a douchebag?”

“Because my dad said so, and because the guy wasn’t my dad. So he was a fucking douchebag.”

“Gotcha. Continue.” I try and contain my laughter at his ridiculously adorable matter-of-fact statement.

“So this douchebag ordered a round of some fruity bitch drink for all the girls and Guinness for all the guys at the table.” I can’t hold it in anymore and I start to laugh as he begins to swipe some kind of ointment over my cut, but the second he starts to blow on it I forget why I was laughing in the first place.

Oh yeah, I remember now. “The horror! Ordering drinks for everyone like that. You’re so right, what a douche!”

Liam shakes his head and I know he wants to laugh but he’s refusing to give me the satisfaction. “He is because he didn’t even ask what anyone wanted. So, everyone at the table happily drinks except for my mom who ignored hers and watched as the guys drank their beers. Because my dad was staring at her like a creep all night, he noticed this. He walked a Guinness right up to the table, handed it to her, and said ‘Mavourneen,’ which means my darling” Liam winks at me and I grin like an idiot. “Mavourneen, you’ll never get everything ya’ want out of life if you don’t open that pretty little mouth of yours and ask for it.’”

“He really said that?”

“He really did.”

“And what did your mom say?” My eyes widen as big as my smile in anticipation. Yes, I am a sucker for happy endings; it’s my dirty little secret.

“That’s the best part. She smiled at him, swallowed the beer in a few gulps like the fucking champ she is, and said ‘I wanted a shot of whiskey, darling, and when you bring one back, pull up a chair so I can tell you more about what I want.’ He spent the next two months showing her around Ireland, then he left everything, his boxing career, his family, his life there to move back to Washington with her.”

“Wow. That is incredibly romantic. The kind of thing that only happens in movies. In fact, I think I might have been in that movie.” Despite the fact his head is still bowed, I catch the smile playing at the corners of his lips.

“Cute, Sky."

Teaser from Heathen: Coming 2017

“I’ve fallen in love with you Cass.”

There it is. She said it. I knew she was close. The signs were all there. If I went deaf and blind I could still tell you the minute a girl starts falling in love with me. The touches become more possessive, yet gentle. There is a new light in their eyes every time they look at me. I can almost sense the warmth in their chest growing as they feel comfortable enough to tell me more of their secrets, more of their pasts. Trusting me to keep every part of their body, their souls, their hearts, safe.

“You love me babe?” The innocent look in my eyes, the softness of my voice and my small smile has effectively dropped her guard entirely.

“Yes.  I do. I love you so much,” she says throwing her arms around my neck, pushing me further into the bed as she rains light sweet kisses down on my face.

She loves me. No matter how many times I hear it from girls the high never dies. It never gets old. And now my heart beats faster, blood pumping harder with excitement, with the anticipation of what I know I get to do next.

“Well.  Fuck.” I push her lightly away from me, un-wrapping her arms from around my neck.  Confusion rolls over her eyes, but the smile still remains; as if she is still holding out hope I’m going to say it back. I smile back at her, letting her hold onto that hope for seconds more because it will make this so much sweeter for me.

“Cass?” Doubt begins to creep within her as her smile falters and mine only grows larger.

“Sweet Madeline, babe, these last two months have been great, don’t get me wrong,” and they have been.  Madeline is a great lay, so giving, so responsive.

“Great?”

“Yea, really great, but I think this has run its course.  Don’t you agree?” Of course I know she doesn’t.  I’m not a fucking idiot; she just told me she loves me.

“I just told you I love you Cass!  Are-are you breaking up with me?”

The tears start flooding those baby blues and my dick gets harder with every drop that falls on her cheeks. I’m breaking her heart. Tearing it right out of her chest, causing her pain after giving her so much pleasure and I’m getting turned on by it.

I’m sick. I know this. But I can’t help it. Among all my addictions this one, this one is my favorite. I run my finger down her cheek, picking up one of her tears, carefully placing my finger in my mouth; licking it, sucking the wetness from it. Tears always taste different; tears of love taste sweet and the tears of sadness taste even sweeter. I know how wrong this looks to her, but like with any addiction your needs always war with your wants and your wants know no bounds.  They adhere to no reason. And I just take without remorse and ride the high.

Hope you enjoy!

Six years ago, I would have been running in the late afternoon, when the island was alive with tourists and friends alike. I was friendly with everyone; no one feared me like they do now. Six years ago I had a much different reputation in Eastsound, the town golden boy destined to make a name for myself in the boxing game. But now things are much different. My reputation has been tarnished by my quick temper, and when I fucking snap, everything goes dark. I lose control.

And in a close-knit town like Eastsound, the gossips in it live to remember your failures over your triumphs and never forgive your past. Not that I want or need their forgiveness. I deserve their condemnatory punishment.

As I turn a corner onto Main Street, named that because it’s literally the only street in the small town of Eastsound, I feel my shoe loosen around my foot. The goddamn thing is untied.

“Fuck!” I fucking hate when my concentration is broken because all the good memories associated with those smells dissipate from my mind as the momentary lapse in concentration allows a chance for the darkness to descend.

Reluctantly I bend down to tie my shoe and hear a door creak open a short distance away. I glance up instinctively and see her. She walks out onto the balcony from a room on the second floor of The Lighthouse Inn like a living fantasy. I take a few steps forward toward the edge of the sidewalk to get a better look. Because I know. I fucking know this is a sight I would be happy to have seared into my memory from now until the day I die. My breath, which just moments ago had been hard and fast from running, halts in my chest as if time and existence has frozen around me because even the universe can sense how fucking spectacular her presence is. She’s quite simply beautiful, breathtaking, and somewhat familiar.

Shit. I know that face. I don’t even need a photographic memory to remember who she is. I just need to not live in a fucking cave. Everyone knows her. It’s Skylar Barrett. I know she’s been filming something around here, the whole island has been talking about it for months, but never thought I’d see her. My sister used to watch that stupid Mandy Mayhem every Saturday morning. It was fucking torture.

And here she is to torture me again, only this time in a very different way, because she’s all grown up. Her auburn hair drapes messily over one shoulder as she stares out at the ocean. She must have just woken up as she appears to be wearing something she slept in and there is a tranquil vibe about her, a type of calmness that comes before the day fucks you up. A pink tank top fits tightly to her petite body and a pair of white shorts hang off her hipbones.

Fuck me, she has the most perfect body I’ve seen on any woman. Ever. Trust me when I say I have seen a fucking lot. Unfortunately I’m too far away to see her facial features, more importantly her eyes. Beautiful eyes are my Achilles’ heel. That’s what drew me to her. I shut my eyes to get the image of her out of my head as quickly as fucking possible.

Once upon a time I would have made some grand gesture, like scaling the balcony and asking this girl out on a date, and she would have said yes. Most chicks do, and in less than three hours after meeting one I can have my name replacing God’s while they scream it in my bed.

Or theirs.

Or a bar bathroom.

Or the back seat of a car.

Or the front seat of a car.

Or the hood of a car. I’m not picky.

But this chick, this woman, she is one you wife the fuck up. As quickly as possible. And yes, I can tell this just from looking at her. I’m one hundred percent certain I’m not Skylar Barrett material either. I’m not relationship material in general. I can’t go down that road again. It will hurt too much in the end, and it will end.

First Blog Post EVER

So, for my first blog post that will be shared on my first website that features the first book I will  publish I figured I would talk about how I came up with the idea for After The Break.  I am sure my idea came like most author's book ideas before me; a TMZ video.

Ok, maybe not most authors, but I imagine some...right?  Anyway, the video I saw was one of Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth (this was pre-breakup, and post re-engagement, and just a side note I TOTALLY predicted they would get back together, so go me!) coming down the escalator at LAX airport.  The scene was insane, paparazzi were everywhere, crowding around them, yelling out questions over one another; it was absolute chaos.  And through the entire paparazzi swarm fuck-fest Miley stood behind Liam, Liam held her hand and tried his best to block her from their view and I had a big "awwwwwwwww" moment. I am a total sappy sucker, I know.

Now, a little fact about me is that I used to be big into acting.  It was a passion for me from ten to twenty.  I even moved to California to pursue it more seriously and decide for myself if it was something I wanted to do with the rest of my life.  Turns out, it wasn't, although I still love it, I didn't love it enough to work hard to achieve my goals.  But during my time in L.A. I did learn a lot of the ins and outs about the movie business and the business of celebrity.  As well as some of the secrets a lot of people don't even know about Hollywood.  That world is of course glamours and glitzy but it is also addictive and dirty and incredibly fascinating.

Turns out I wasn't meant to act, but I was meant to write.  Writing and reading has also been a long time passion of mine, but one that is here to stay.  One I will bleed to succeed at (but not the gross kind of gushing type bleeding, more the dainty, paper cut type. Blood is gross after all.)  And after seeing that random Miley and Liam TMZ video, combined with my knowledge of the Hollywood acting lifestyle, an idea was born.  While I may mostly only make mention of the character Liam in many, many, MANY of my posts and teasers, Skylar will be the one I hope stands out most of all.

With After The Break I want to create a story that gives the reader an idea of what it's like to be a Hollywood starlet.  How the media will portray and manipulate her to the public, versus what really may be going on behind close doors.  I also want to give the reader a couple to root for.  Hopefully balance the dark with some humor, compassion, love and definitely some sexy times.

So if any of that appeals to you go forth and TBR on Goodreads!!! Follow me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pintrest, AOL, AIM, MYSPACE, my front lawn, my backyard....any of those places you will be able to get updates to After The Break.  If none of it appeals to you then just buy it anyway and gift to a friend who it might! Sharing is caring after all. ;)
